Michael Copley studied music at Cambridge University. He is a virtuoso flautist and recorder player. As well as playing the recorder and flute, he is an exponent of other traditional, early folk woodwind instruments and also a master of the ocarina, an Anglo-Italian development of the ceramic vessel flute.

Michael has performed all over the world — at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, plus tours of Japan, Australia, Canada, Korea and China. As a recorder player he has recorded Telemann and Vivaldi recorder concertos for Deutsche Grammophon, Bach’s Brandenburgs with I Musici and appeared on recordings made by the Academy of Ancient Music. He has given concerto performances with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony and the Academy of Ancient Music.

He was a founder member of  the Cambridge (later Classic) Buskers whose wittily virtuoso arrangements took them to some of the world’s great concert venues in over thirty countries. He has played with the Chuckerbutty Ocarina Quartet for many years and recently formed a duo with Segovia Prize-winning guitarist Edoardo Catemario.

He has wide experience of teaching both children and  people with disabilities.  For seventeen years he supervised  musical activities at the Papworth Trust, Britain’s largest disability organization and directed ten Summer Schools there and has also been involved as a tutor with several courses at the Orpheus Centre.
He is in possession of an enhanced DBS (formerly known as CRB) certificate.

Michael is now concentrating on teaching and arranging.
